Instruction in commercial and residential painting

The PPG Pittsburgh Paints Trade School is an initiative of PPG Industries, the maker of Pittsburgh Paints. PPG owned and operated a chromium manufacturing plant at 900 Garfield Ave., in Jersey City for about 10 years ending in the mid-1960s.

In support of its chromium environmental remediation commitments in Jersey City, PPG established a wholly owned subsidiary, the Garfield Avenue Renewal Company.
The Garfield Avenue Renewal Company’s purpose is to assist PPG with its community relations efforts in Jersey City.

As a result of its community outreach, the Garfield Avenue Renewal Company determined PPG could play a positive role in Jersey City, particularly Ward F, by helping to address the community’s need for jobs and economic opportunity.

The PPG Pittsburgh Paints Trade School is designed to meet that objective, helping Jersey City residents to pursue careers as residential and commercial painters.
